2017 Vintage Special Edition - Autumn

Welcome to our 2017 vintage edition! We're busy as bees with awesome new vintages on the way and our cellars under major development as well as Mother's Day 2017 being just around the corner. We've also launched a new sales system and made group reservations easier which makes visiting Flyfaire easy. Enjoy our autumn newsletter!

Vintage 2017

With picking recently finished, vintage 2017 has been a bumper year for Flyfaire! We've had perfect conditions for ripening our grapes packing in the flavour content. We predict to have some great wines in the 2017 vintage lineup!

We had a hard time picking this year with the shear quantity of grapes with the most Chardonnay and Merlot grapes in recent memory! The Merlot harvest is already in vats developing a delicious looking luscious blueberry colour. Not to mention the bottle-ready Chardonnay with its yummy creamy pear characteristics. 

Our recently planted Carménère is already in its third year and has produced a promising crop of rich crimson fruit. Our cool climate environment seems to make our Carménère very happy indeed. We'll be adding the Carménère to our online shop shortly, so keep a look out to pick up a bottle of this very limited vintage (limit of 1 bottle per customer).

Lastly, our Riesling grapes are displaying a tight dry finish, with crisp acid, melon and citrus flavours - all pretty characteristic of our signature Rielsing for those who know it.

New Function Facilities & Cellars

Planning is well underway with our brand new function facilities and cellars. Our newest facilities will be more than perfect for large events, such as weddings. The function room will be able to easily cater for events over 150 people with a bar, outside deck area and garden.

A neat new feature of the function facilities will be our guest rooms featuring a lounge and private rooms - which we're sure will be popular with brides and bridal parties.

We're also thrilled about our underground cellars which we are pretty sure are a world first! Our architect, Paul Simpson from Envirodome, is the proud designer of our new underground cellar and production area featuring a vaulted ceiling (reminiscent of cellars built in European wine facilities).

Paul has cleverly designed a modular vaulted ceiling with pre-caste concrete walls and steel columns. The new cellar will be used for our wine production and for wine education as well as guided tours.

We'll provide regular updates over 2017 showing the progress of the construction. We think that everyone will be able to enjoy these new facilities in early 2018.

Reservations Made Easier at Flyfaire

Recently, we made making a reservation at Flyfaire much easier for visitors and groups attending for events, parties, functions, etc. Using the reservation page is now simple and easy to use with one section for normal reservation and another section for Group Reservations.

Group Reservations will now provide us much more information in advance such as the set menu they would like to have for their group and indicating if they would like wine tasting in advance. Check out our Menu Options page providing groups with great choices in advance for their event. Groups can also pay their deposit in advance using our store on the website.

Easier Way to Square Up Your Bill

We recently introduced a new payment system at Flyfaire to allow visitors to square up their meals and purchases quickly and effortlessly. You may have seen the payment system Square popping up at other business around the traps and we decided to join the bandwagon.

A greener way to pay with receipts sent via email or a text to your phone. We accept Visa, Mastercard and AMEX with our new payment system.

Flyfaire's Spring Newsletter 2016

2016 NSW Small Winemakers Wine

Flyfaire has won bronze at the 2016 NSW Small Winemakers Wine Show held in Forbes, NSW. We entered our new line - Flyfaire 2016 Gold Chardonnay in the "CLASS 25 - Apera and Varietals or Blended Fortified Wine not covered by classes 26 or 27, Dry to Sweet" to win the bronze. 

We also entered a number of other vintages which also scored well, but missed out on gaining any medals - including Flyfaire 2016 Merlot Rouge and our Flyfaire 2015 Merlot & Chardonnay. The judges' comments were limited, but they did say that "most of the wines have flavour and freshness" in the Dry White Table for our 2015 chardonnay. We'll take what we can get we guess! 

We're a big supporter of the NSW Small Winemakers Wine Show. We've entered many of our wines these past few years and have received positive feedback for our wines. We'll definitely be back in 2017!

Big Rains are Good for Vines & for Summer Water Retention


We've all being talking lately of the big rains that we've been having and with the Hume Weir (Lake Hume) at 99.51% (11 Nov. 2016), it's understandable. 

For us at Flyfaire though, it's really good news as these early spring rains help our vines enormously. The rains for one help their spring growth after the winter dormant months. And, more importantly, they get them ready for the hot Aussie summer ahead by increasing water retention capacity. All good news to help us have a bummer 2017 crop!

The World Visits Flyfaire

With our recent sign on the Hume Hwy (M31), we have been receiving more and more international visitors. In response, we've put up a world map for when people enter. Visitors can place a pin to show where they're visiting from. 

So far, we've had visitors from (as shown in gallery above) Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Nepal, Canada, Kuwait, India - to name a few. It makes for interesting tales as we get to hear about people's travels and share stories with them. We're pretty sure our map will have a diverse set of locations shortly and all the better as we get to meet super interesting folks with great stories!

Backpackers Lodging

Running a vineyard is a lot of work - from picking, to pruning, to pressing, to bottling - there are so many tasks that have to be done. So, we often have to rely on getting outside help so that all these tasks can get done.

Given Australia's youth visa program that allows people to stay up to 2 years (they can stay an extra year on top of the first year so long as they spend 3 months or so working in a rural community), backpackers are often perfect candidates to help out as they are often looking for work in rural communities. 

Their contribution to rural and regional Australia cannot be understated as they often work in helping out businesses that can have difficulties in finding employees in these sometimes remote communities. 

The team at Flyfaire has being building backpacker lodging to enable us to better accommodate backpacker guests who want to stay and work at Flyfaire. We hope to have these lodgings finished shortly, as we've found that many backpackers don't have accommodation (and often isn't feasible for 3 months) easily available. We're looking forward to their valuable help and hosting them - as well as hearing about their often interesting travels and stories!

Father's Day @FlyfaireWines - 4th of September 2016

Father's Day is upon us for 2016 on the 4th of September and what better way to show Dad your appreciation than a day out at Flyfaire to relax in our natural surroundings and enjoy a glass of cool climate Riesling, Chardonnay or Merlot. 

We look forward to welcoming you and Dad for a BBQ, a glass of our cool climate wine, a relaxing day in the surrounds of the Woomargama National Park, and most importantly treating Dad to a great day out. Don't forget that Dad can always watch the kids from our children's playground while enjoying some wine or a glass craft beer from Cheeky Peak Brewery.
