On the Road with Nana | Enjoying a Break from Pruning

Nana, having a break from pruning and enjoying a hot cuppa

Each time you see Nana (in On the Road with Nana), she always seems to be enjoying a cuppa and taking a break!

We're kidding of course, Nana had been helping out with this year's 2015 winter pruning and was well deserving of some afternoon tea - especially after being in the cold. Nana enjoys a good strong black tea, no sugar or milk and very hot (well boiling would be more accurate). Afternoon tea wouldn't be complete without scones of course too.

Most of our regular guests would know Nana who enjoys being at the Cellar Door most Saturdays to meet and greet our visitors. Makes sure to say hi to Nana next time you're visiting our Cellar Door & Café!

About On the Road with Nana

You may have seen our Nana, June Cox, on Facebook whipping up a fabulous cake or in the vineyard picking the latest vintage.  With over 90 years of age, this is no mean feat.

So, in appreciation for all of her help, we thought we would do a mini blog of what Nana is up to in the vineyard and the Cellar Door & Café.

Sssshhhh, Nana's Secret Scones

3rd of May, 2013: We have been waiting a long time to obtain this little secret recipe of Nana's!  So finally, after some heavy negotiations, Nana has decided to share her famous recipe with Flyfaire for an undisclosed amount (probably in the 7 figure range; Nana's and her suite of lawyers drive a hard bargain!).

ana even threw in the photo for us with the price we paid.  You can find her famous recipe on our blog, be sure to check it out to benefit from the fruits of our tough negotiations with Nana!

Nana Builds a Road

26th of April, 2013: Nana really got busy this week and decided to build a road. Well maybe not by herself, but definitely by supervising (as Nana does) the construction of our brand new road into Flyfaire's lovely new cellar door.

We're not sure about Nana's intentions though!  We think Nana might be motivated because she wants to get the Cellar Door open as soon as possible so that she can start the wine tasting.  We think Nana is on to something though; wine tasting is certainly lots of fun...

Nana Samples 2013 Riesling

19th of April, 2013: After Nana's 'week off' last week, she was back into it this week sampling Flyfaire's 2012 and 2013 vintages.  Pictured here is Nana back under her Quality Control Supervisor hat (well, still no hat) sampling our brand new harvest already juiced and ready for the fermentation process (see "how our wines are made").

And why not too, we wouldn't blame her given the lovely refreshing taste of Flyfaire's quality wine.  Yum!  Quality job done Nana, we think you are doing extremely well in ensuring the quality of our wines!

Nana Whips up a Sponge Cake

21st of September, 2013: Nana may have been a little quiet of late, but that's because she has been very busy at Flyfaire's Cellar Door.  As you can see here, Nana has whipped up one of her famous sponges for all of our visitors to enjoy at the Cellar Door - yum!

In addition, ana has been quite busy helping out with her delicious scones and fabulous cakes which have really added to the Flyfaire café experience for our customers.  Not that we are taking of advantage of Nana, she did volunteer.  No, really she did!

o cook Nana's delicious sponge cake yourself, check out our recipe page here.

Nana Attends the Grand Opening

Nana Attends Cellar Door Opening Flyfaire Wines

8-10th of June, 2013: For all of you who attended the Grand Opening on the Queen's Birthday weekend, you may have enjoyed a glass of wine or two, or you may have just enjoyed our beautiful new cellar door,...or you may have had a chance to meet Nana!  Yes, Nana was there and helped enormously with the preparing for the Grand Opening including sanding doors and sweeping floors.  We couldn't have done it without her!

So, come Grand Opening Day, Nana had a bit of time to stand in the spotlight and enjoy being a little bit of a celebrity.  Many people were curious to meet Nana in the flesh and were obviously delighted by the results - we know, Nana is pretty fabulous.  So well done Nana for showboating a bit and helping out to put together what was a wonderful weekend.

Nana Works the Wine Press

25h of May, 2013: I know you have all been wondering where Nana has been for the past few weeks? Well busy is the answer we got, or at least that's what Nana told us!  Nana has been very occupied preparing Flyfaire's 2012 vintages.

As you can see, Nana is working the wine press in this picture, and, what got us is that Nana is drinking on the job!  We guessed that this comes under the quality control checklist that Nana has created.  Well somebody has to test Flyfaire's wine and make sure it's up to standard! Well done Nana.
