Fireside Poetry Event - The Works and Story of Billy Wye, The last True Australian Bush Poet

This coming Saturday, the 4th of July, 2015 at 12pm - Flyfaire is presenting a wonderful afternoon of Fireside Poetry. The poetry will be centred upon a local poet by the name of William James (Billy) Wye (born: 1866 / died: 1952) who is often referred to as 'The Last True Australian Bush Poet'.

Billy Wye was from our region and died in Albury, New South Wales at the age of 86. His story is a bit of tragic one and, as part of the afternoon, we will be sharing it with you. An excerpt from a book about Billy Wye by Dianne Carroll (who will be present at the event), explains:

After his death, his biographical manuscript, along with a suitcase full of photographs and literature, disappeared [...]. It is said that a close friend of his destroyed them, because there may have been an uproar as some of the contents were very controversial.
